I pride myself on helping clients build a solid foundation of fitness, and that means incorporating movements and exercises that might seem small and even unnecessary, but which support the difficulty and intensity of the standard exercises like squats, push-ups, and lunges!
Accessory exercises are movements that help you improve:
balance
mobility, ease and quality of movement
flexibility, range of motion
stabilization, rotation and anti-rotation
strength and endurance in small muscle groups that often get ignored, such as muscles of the rotator cuffs, ankles, hips, along the spine, and so on
Essentially, these movements serve as PRE-HAB. We get strong and efficient in these movements to prevent injury and so that we can do the challenging strength and cardio exercises safely!
How I program accessory exercises into workouts:
As part of the warm-up
As an “active rest” after the hardest parts of your workout
As alternate day exercises, to be done on days you need rest from hard workouts
As we build our video library, you’ll have access to all of our Accessory Exercises - choose the ones that you need most and do those first. Then, incorporate them all as maintenance!
